Nicholas and Grace Westerdyke Bos 1920 Census
Swantown, Island, WA

The road is not named, but Nicholas and his wife Grace (red arrow) are age 26 and 22, have no children yet, and are renting their farm.  I can't find who they rented it from.  It would also be nice to have a photo of that farm.  Nicholas' nephew John and Mary Bos and their son John Wayne also live nearby (blue arrow), on the farm they own.

The above two images show Swantown, Island County WA both within the state of Washington, and a bird's eye view of the area, where we can see it is, indeed, farmland.  Interesting to note, is the beach, called "Hakuna Matata Beach."  Now where did THAT come from, do you think?

1921 - 1925, age 29 - 33

Oak Harbor, Island County WA, Google Maps 2018

You can see, on this google satellite map, that Oak Harbor is close to Swantown, and is where his son Gordon Nicholas Bos was born on the 28th November 1921.  Son Glen Lyle Bos was born in the same place when Nicholas was 31 years of age, 3 July 1924.  Four months later, his father John died at the age of 69 in the same town.

Later his mother Wilhelmina Bos died aged 76, on 24 September 1925, again at Oak Harbour Washington.

I am not able to find any birth record for this man.  I have gone through Island County records found on Ancestry and Family Search, but there is no record of his birth.  The sources available to confirm this date for his birth is his death record, the censuses, the draft registration cards for both WWI and WWII, the marriage recor...

John Bos II Part 8, 1920s 12 sept

John Bos II Part 8 1920s John Bos II mini-pedigree from Ancestry.com 1920 age 65  Federal Census John & Wilhelmina Bos 1920 census Oak Harbor, Island County WA In this census, we find John R. Bos and his wife Wilhemina living in Oak Harbour.  He is age 65, she is 71 years old, living with their single son Peter, age 34.  Again, the date of immigration for both is 1882, they are both naturalized in 1900.  The census indicates none of them have any occupation, but that seems hard to believe.  There were many dairy farms in Oak Harbour, I wonder if they considered farming an occupation? John Bos II Part 7, 1910s

John Bos II Part 7 1910s John Bos II mini-pedigree from Ancestry.com 1910  Federal Census, Oak Harbor, Island County, Washington John & Wilhelmina Bos 1910 Census Oak Harbor, Island County, Washington John Bos lived in Oak Harbor, Island County, Washington, age 55, born in  Netherland  (Holland).  It looks like he and Wilhelmina, age 60, have been married for 33 years, and that this is John's first marriage, but this is Wilhelmina's second marriage.  This census indicates they both arrived in the US in 1881, which is different than in the 1900 census.  John and Wilhelmina may have forgotten the EXACT date of his immigration.  If I had to choose, I'd tend to go with the 1900 census figure, because it was closer to the event.  Another possibility is that a neighbor or one of the kids answered the questions of the census taker, thus getting the date wrong.  It looks like John was naturalized, which mean...
