John Bos was born 17 February 1855 in Koedijk, Noord-Holland, Netherlands to Aafjhe Wagenaar Bos age 50, and Johannes Cornelisz Bos age 35.

Koedijk is a village in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland.  It is now a part of Alkmaar and of Langedijk, but before 1972 those two parts were a separate municipality first mentioned in the 14th century.  Koedijk is most famous for its annual Gondelvaart , a gondola parade held every 3rd Saturday in August.  According to Wikipedia, the name of the town means cow dyke, which protected the village from a tidal stream (Wikipedia Staff, 2019).

I'm sure there were other children born to this family, but so far I don't have that information.  If you know where I can get that info, please let me know using the contact form on the right.

Next up is 1870s.  You see, I just don't know what happened during his childhood.  There are so many John Bos, almost like researching for John Smith.  I don't have any censuses while they lived in South Dakota.  I know they lived there, the proof is in the records of their childrens' births.  Anyway, we will skip right to the 1870s in the next post.

I am not able to find any birth record for this man.  I have gone through Island County records found on Ancestry and Family Search, but there is no record of his birth.  The sources available to confirm this date for his birth is his death record, the censuses, the draft registration cards for both WWI and WWII, the marriage records.
